| Sibiu ? The City Hall Tower | | 
| | | The Clock Tower, as it was sometimes called, gradually changed its name into the present one, for it was attached to the building where the City Council held its meetings. Firstly it was built as a defense tower, secondly as a part of the system of fortifications and had only four levels. In 1586 it collapsed as a consequence of an earthquake and it was rebuilt two years later and heightened with several levels. The Tower had different functions starting from being a cereals warehouse, an observation point for fires, a temporary prison cell or a Museum of Natural Sciences at the middle of the 18th century. At present, the Tower offers a splendid panorama of the historical centre and the opportunity of admiring the mechanism of the clock one level downstairs. | |
