ROMANIA TOURS - BUCHAREST / BUCURESTI AND SURROUNDINGS DAY TOURS See our Bucuresti / Bucharest and Surroundings Tours
Let us to present you the capital of Romania – Bucharest and its surroundings. We have specila designed Bucharest Tours for those who want to discover Bucharest’s most important tourist attractions, its history and culture. Known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, glorious Belle Époque buildings and a reputation for the high life (which in the 1900s earned its nickname of "Little Paris"), Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, is today a bustling metropolis. Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded on the banks of the Dambovita River by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means "joy." His flute playing reportedly dazzled the people and his hearty wine from nearby vineyards endeared him to the local traders, who gave his name to the place. In the 15th century, the princely court of Vlad Tepes (thought to have been the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula) was established here and by the end of the 17th century, the city had become the capital of the province of Walachia. In 1862, Bucharest became the capital of Romania. Remodeled in the late 19th century by French and French-trained architects, the city features large neoclassical buildings, fashionable parks, and even its very own Arch de Triumph on the elegant Kiseleff Avenue, an avenue longer than the famed Champs-Elysees and home to the city's mansion district. Bucharest is laden with historical charm - from the streets of the Old City Centre, which are slowly being restored, to the grand architecture of the Royal Palace and the lush green of Cismigiu Park. The city also claims a large number of museums, art galleries, exquisite Orthodox churches and unique architectural sites. Nicolae Ceausescu's legacy, including the Parliament Palace (formerly called the People's Palace), which at 3.76 million square feet stands as the world's second largest building after the U.S. Pentagon, provides an interesting introduction to the dictator's megalomaniac vision. All this sights are included in our Bucharest Tours. We have created different day tours in Bucharest in accordance with your available time. We have just a Panoramic Bucharest Tours (2 hours), a Bucharest Full Tour (6-7 hours) which include also a Parliament Palace Tour and a visit at The Village Museum. In the surroundings of Bucharest can be found also some interesting places and we offer Bucharest Surroundings Tours to: Snagov - a small village 40 km north of Bucharest, with its beautiful sixteen kilometer long lake; In the centre of the lake is an island occupied by a monastery, built in 1519. The Snagov monastery is situated on the island of the lake with the same name, we have to reach the monastery by crossing the lake by boat (If time and weather permit). Visitors come here to seek the tomb of Dracula sitting in the front of the church altar. Vlad's murder is believed to have occurred in the forests nearby, where the monks took his body, since both Vlad and his father had both given money to the monastery. Snagov monastery is a place where many of our tourist who join one of our Romania Tours, Dracula Tours or Bucharest Tours are hardly want to visit. Poienari Castle. Standing on a cliff but know in ruins this is known as the real castle of Dracula (Vlad Tepes). To get to the top you must climb up its 1400 steps (takes approx. 1 hour). Once you arrive to the top of the Citadel you will find that the citadel is surprisingly small, one third has collapsed down the mountainside in 1888. Entering through a narrow wooden bridge, you come across the crumbling remains of two towers within; the prism shaped one was Vlad's ( Dracula's) residential quarters, from here, according to the legend , The Impaler's wife flung herself out from the window, declaring that better this way than be captured by the Turks, who were besieging the castle. Legend has it that Vlad himself escaped over the mountains on horseback. We are proud that we have ones of the few tours in Romania which includes Poienari Castle in their intinerary. Mogosoaia is a village in the west of Bucharest. The name derives from the name of a boyar, Mogos -- the name is of Hungarian origin, "Magas". In late 17 century, Prince Constantin Brancoveanu bought land here, and, between 1698-1702, he built the Mogosoaia Palace. in what is called the Romanian Renaissance style or Brancovenesc style, a combination of Venetian and Ottoman elements. The Palace was to a large extent rebuilt in the 1920 by Marthe Bibesco. The Palace had been given to Marthe by her husband, George Bibesco, who later also deeded the land to her. She spent all her wealth from the many books she wrote in its reconstruction and it became the meeting place for politicians and international high society, a quiet retreat during the growing turmoil of the 1930s. The Palace is now a popular tourist destination in a lot of Romania Tours. Bucharest Tours are a important category of our Romania Tours and is very popular for those tourist which can spend one more day in Bucharest, before or after their bussines trips or tours, or for those who work in Bucharest and wants to explore the city during a private guided tour of Bucharest.
