Dracula and Transylvania tour in Romania - 6 days
Transylvania is the very known and legendary region of Romania and also home to some of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, some relating to the legend of Dracula. Discover this enchanting region and the reality and myth of Dracula legend. Your personal guide will take you in a trip to the most important sights which had a role in Vlad The Impaler’s life and following of the Bram Stoker’s novel. Don’t miss the tours to Bran Castle, the birth place of Vlad the Impaler – Sighisoara and overnight at Dracula Castle Hotel in Borgo Pass.
We’ll start with a visit at Dracula’s tomb who is located in the Snagov Monastery. Vlad's murder is believed to have occurred in the forests nearby, where the monks took his body, since both Vlad and his father had both given money to the monastery. We’ll continue to the Princely Court of Curtea de Arges and the true castle of Vlad - Poenari Castle. Standing on a cliff but know in ruins this is known as the real castle of Dracula (Vlad Tepes). To get to the top you must climb up its 1400 steps (takes approx. 1 hour). Once you arrive to the top of the Citadel you will find that the citadel is surprisingly small, one third has collapsed down the mountainside in 1888. Entering through a narrow wooden bridge, you come across the crumbling remains of two towers within; the prism shaped one was Vlad's ( Dracula's) residential quarters, from here, according to the legend , The Impaler's wife flung herself out from the window, declaring that better this way than be captured by the Turks, who were besieging the castle. Legend has it that Vlad himself escaped over the mountains on horseback.
We’ll go across the Carpathians mountains to Brasov on a route of amazing ladscapes and we’ll get to one of the most important cities of Transylvania and Romania and maybe the biggest tourism center of Romania – the city of Brasov. It’s history starts in XIII century and the walls, towers and a lot of buildings from the medieval times are still preserved. In the surroundings of Brasov we’ll find the famous Bran Castle – also known as Dracula’s Castle, which is a beautiful medieval castle built in XIV century. Vlad the Impaler was in prison for a short period inside the castle. Rasnov Fortress, Prejmer Fortified Church and Peles Castle – the former royal residence and the Old District of Brasov are other highlights of the area.
Next we’ll go to Sighisoara - the Pearl of Transylvania, one of the very few medieval citadels still enhabited and it’s included in UNESCO World Heritages. Sighisoara it’s also the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, also called Vlad Dracula after the legend. Spend the night in a hotel in the heart of citadel. Your guide will explain to you the history, real facts and the myth of Dracula.
Departing from Sighisoara we’ll go to Bistrita and following the steps of the Bram Stocker’s novel. You’ll have the chance to stop at Golden Crown Restaurant and Hotel where you can enjoy the lunch and to taste the “blood”, a special drink. In this hotel stayed Jonathan Harper waiting for the Count’s Dracula carriage to pick up him. From here we’ll go through the mountains and forests, through a wild scenery to Borgo Pass. Overnight in Dracula Castle Hotel. Enjoy your stay… From Borgo Pass will go to Medias and visit the Margareth Cathedral, a monument included in UNESCO Heritages List and its famous Trompets Tower is one of the most slided buildings from the world. End the day in Sibiu. Sibiu is one of the most important fortified towns in Transylvania.. The city is reminiscent of old European cities such as Nuremburg and it was founded in 1190 and grew to be the chief city of the Transylvanian Saxons. |
