Hikin and cultural tour in Romania - 7 days
This tour is an excellent choice if you want a mix between the nature, mountains, wild scenes and also cultural sights of Romania. During 3 hiking days you will explore some of the most beautiful Carptahians mountains situated in Brasov area, Bucegi Mountains, Piatra Craiului Mountains and Piatra Mare Mountains.
The Carpathian Mountains are the eastern wing of the great Central Mountain System of Europe, curving 1500 km (~900 miles) along the borders of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro and northern Hungary. Romania contains by far the largest area of the Carpathians, and forms the eastern and southern boundaries of the region. The highest peaks are in the Southern Carpathians - Moldoveanu (2544 m/8,346 feet) and Negoiu (2535 m/8,316 feet) The Carpathians' ensemble is characterized by its varied landscape owing to the different types of relief particularities (glacial, karstic, riverine, structural-lithological), the alternation of mountainous and depressions units, gorges and valleys and the diversity and configuration of the vegetation. They contain the highest concentration of large carnivores in Europe, with estimates of over 6000 brown bears, 2500 wolves and some 1750 lynx living in the region. The Romanian Carpathians represent an exceptional tourist attraction.
The Piatra Craiului Mountains are a mountain range in the Southern Carpathians in Romania. In Romanian "Piatra Craiului" means "Rock of the King". The Piatra Craiului mountains form a narrow and saw-like ridge, which is about 25 km long. The highest elevation in the massif is the "Vârful La Om" with 2238 m. The ridge is regarded as one of the most beautiful sights in the Carpathians.
“Piatra Mare” Mountains which are also part of the Southern Carpathians (Romanian: Carpatii Meridionali), also called the Transylvanian Alps, are a group of mountain ranges which divide central and southern Romania. They cover part of the Carpathian Mountains that is located between the Prahova River in the east and the Timis and Cerna rivers on the west. The Bucegi mountains are located in central Romania, south of the city Brasov. They are part of the Southern Carpathians group of the Carpathian Mountains. The Bucegi is believed to be the Thracian holy mountain Kogainon, on which the mythical figure Zalmoxis lives in a cave.
In the cultural days you’ll visit the most famous castles from Romania: Peles Castle – former royal residence and maybe the nicest palace from Romania; Bran Castle – also called Dracula’s castle – it is a great medieval castle; Rasnov Fortress – a unique peasent citadel. You’ll enjoy the charming medieval city of Brasov with a history starting in XIII century and with a treasure of olds walls, towers, bastion, gates and medeival buildings concentrated in the Old District. You’ll discover the most important saxon heritages from Transylvania at Sighisoara – one of the very few medieval citadels still enhabited, Prejmer and Harman fortified churches.
