UNESCO tour - 8 days
The tour of the main romanian sights which are included in the UNESCO heritages list. A journey through the history and culture of Romania which will include old cities, castles, fortresses, monasteries and churches. You can visit: Peles Castle (Sinaia), Old City Center of Brasov, Bran Castle, Sambata Monastery, Old City Center of Sibiu, Saxon Fortified Church from Biertan, Medieval City of Sighisoara, Wooden Churches from Maramures (Desesti, Barsana, Ieud), Merry Cemetery from Sapanta, outdoor painted monasteries from Bucovina (Moldovita, Humor, Voronet).
The tour is starting from Bucharest – the capital of Romania and first days are dedicated for visits and tours of the southern regions of Transylvania. Important medieval cities like Brasov and Sibiu with magical old districts which are still preserving the medieval atmosphere; Peles Castle – the former Romanian royal family summer residence; the beautiful medieval Bran Castle – also known like Dracula’s Castle, Sighisoara Citadel – named also the Pearl of Transylvania, one of the very few medieval citadels still enhabited and which is also included in UNESCO World Heritages; the fortified churches from Prejmer and Biertan – two jewels of the german influence protected by UNESCO.
Going further to the north will visit the city of Cluj which was the capital of Transylvania in XVIII – XIX centuries. The next stops will be in Maramures County, a northern region of Romania, the land of famous wooden churches and maramuresean gates. It is also a place where traditions are still very well preserved. Don’t esitate to try local cuisine and to enjoy the hospitality of the local people. From the attraction we can specify, Merry Cemetery from Sapanta – famous for its colourful tombstones with native paintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons that are buried there; Barsana Monastery – the tower is the highest wooden building from Europe, Ieud – the oldest wooden church from Europe.
Than we’ll cross Carpathians Mountains through a beautiful road and we’ll adimre the beauty of the scenary. We’ll arrive in another famous region – Bucovina – the land of outdoor painted monasteries. Bucovina is a historical region situated in the north-eastern side of Romania, a realm where the Romanian history and tradition are mostly expressed. The legend about its appearance is linked by the foundation of Moldavia, one of the three great historical provinces in Romania, within Wallachia and Transylvania. It is said that in the middle of the 14th century, Dragos, a minor leader belonging to the Romanian population in the northern side of the nowdays Romania, didn’t bear anymore the Hungarian aggressive neighbors and crossed the eastern side of the Carpathian Mountains, reaching the center of Bucovina of nowadays. Here he settled up several regions which would constitute the future Moldavian state.
The landmarks of Bucovina are the outdoor painted monateries, each one with it’s own history, legends and colors. Our tour will guide you to the most important ones: Voronet – with it’s famous blue color, Moldovita, Sucevita, Humor.
The last night from your tour of Romania UNESCO monuments will be back to Brasov. |
