Day.1 Bucharest – arrival
Meet your guide at Bucharest airport. Start your explore tour of Romania. Depending of your arrival time we’ll start a longer or shorter tour of Bucharest – Romanian Capital. Highlights of the tour are: Parliament Palace, Revolution Square, Athenaeum, Royal Palace, Triumph Arch, walking tour in the old town.
Overnoght in Bucharest, in a 4 stars hotel, central located.
Day 2 BUCHAREST – SINAIA – BRAN - BRASOV
After breakfast we’ll depart on the route to Sinaia for a visit at Peles Castle – Sinaia, former summer residence of the Romanian kings and one of the best castles in Europe.
Next we’ll go to Bran Castle, one of the most famous castles in Europe due to the story of Vlad Dracula. The castle was built in 14th century and represent a perfect example of military medieval architecture. We’ll end the day in Brasov, an old medieval town dating since 13th century. We’ll have a walking tour in the old town. Overnight in Brasov at Capitol Hotel*** or similar, located in the Old Town.
Day 3 HIKING DAY – CIUCAS MOUNTAINS
We’ll start the hiking to Romania program together with our mountain guide. This will be a medium to advanced hike to Ciucas Mounains, one of the most scenic mountain views from Romania.
Note:The daily hiking routes are established together with our mounain specialis guide according with the weather, your hiking experience and health.
Return in the evening to Basov. Overnight in the same hotel.
Day.4 HIKING DAY
Breakfast. Today is time to explore “Piatra Craiului” Mountains. The Piatra Craiului Mountains are a mountain range in the Southern Carpathians in Romania. In Romanian "Piatra Craiului" means "Rock of the King". The Piatra Craiului mountains form a narrow and saw-like ridge, which is about 25 km long. The ridge is regarded as one of the most beautiful sights in the Carpathians. At the end of the hiking activity we’ll drive you (aprox 1hr) through a beautiful road at the foot of the mountains which cross through charming old villages. We’ll arrive in the area of Fagaras Mountains. Overnight in a village located in Sibiu’s area. Accomodation in 3 / 4 stars pension (guesthouse).
Day. 5 SIGHTSEEING TOUR:
Today we’ll go to visit Sibiu, one of the oldest and most important medieval towns of Transylvania, dating since 12th century. Walking tour in the Old Town. Highlights are: Big Square, Little Square, Evanghelic and Orthodox Cathedral, Liar’s bridge, towers and fortifications. Next we’ll stop in an old village from Sibiu area. You can enjoy a horse driven wagon tour in the old village. Learn more about the local traditions and way of living, visit an icon painting museum and a local household. Traditional lunch in a local house.
Overnight in the same pension.
Day.6 SIGHTSEEING TOUR TO SIGHISOARA area
In the morning we’ll drive to Sighisoara also caled “The Pearl of Transylvania” a wonderful medieval city where you can stil enjoy the medieval atmosphere. Main attractions: Clock Tower, Vlad the Impaler’s birth place, Covered stairs, church on the hill.
I this area can be seen a lot of old charming villages which still preserve an architecture older than 200 years with old traditions and local craftsemen. We can visit the fortified churches which are an unique type of medieval architecture built to protect the local village community. The most important are Biertan, Mosna, Richis and we can stop to visit some of them.
Overnight in Sighisoara at Sighisoara Hotel, 3 stars, located in the medieval citadel.
Day 7. SIGHISOARA- BICAZ GORGES– GURA HUMORULUI
We’ll continue our sighseeing tour in Romania. Next we’ll cross the Carpathians mountains heading north-east to one of the most famous and popular region of Romania – Bucovina, the land of painted monasteries. It is a very scenic road which offer amazing landscapes. We’ll pass Red Lake, Bicaz Gorges and Bicaz Lake on our way to Bucovina. Short hike in Bicaz Gorges area.
Next stop will be at Tarpesti village to visit an excellent museum of traditional crafts and customs.
In the evening arrive at Gura Humorului. Bucovina is also the land of very well preserved old tradition. Taste the delicious local cuisine. Accomodation in Gura Humrului at: Hildes Residence****or similar.
Day 8. BUCOVINA REGION – PAINTED MONASTERIES
Start to to explore the Bucovina region – the land of World famous Painted Monasteries.
- Voronet (UNESCO) : founded in 1488 by Stephen the Great . It is the most accomplished sample of artistic achievement in Moldavian architecture and painting . The doors of the porch have a Renaissance framing, whereas the stone carvings of the broken arches at the doors and windows belong to the Gothic style. Voronet Monastery had been dubbed the oriental Sistine Chapel , whereas Voronet Blue , a color obtained from lapis lazuli, entered in the lexicon of art alongside Titian red and Veronese green, and to this day has yet to be reproduced by natural means
The cultural tour will be combined with 2-3 hours of hiking in Rarau mountains
- Moldovita (UNESCO): dates back from 1532 and is due to the ruling prince Petru Rares
It has the aspect of a fortress, with imposing towers and high, thick walls. The church has a three-cusped plan, as well as an open porch. It Is decorated with scenes from the 16th c Moldavian life. You can see here the best preserved frescoes, with fresh and vivid colors
- Sucevita : the last and the most magnificent monastic achievement among the painted monasteries in Bucovina , looks as a real fortress, with towers, buttresses and watch roads. Built in 1581, by one bishop, it was dedicated to the Assumption in 1584. Paintings of the Sucevita monastery were best preserved both on the outside and on the inside( Ladder of Virtue, the last Judgment, the tree of Jesse,)
Beside the old and beautiful monasteries we’ll also dedicate some time to visit local craftsmens as: a painted eggs museum and workshop, Marginea pottery center, aso.
Return to Gura Humorului and overnight in the same hotel. Accomodation at: Hildes Residence****or similar.
Day 9 GURA HUMORULUI – MARAMURES
After breakfast we’ll leave on the way to Maramures, the northern region of Romania, the land of wooden churches and well preserved traditions.
Today we’ll visit the wooden church from Bogdan Voda (UNESCO). At Dragomiresti we’ll visit the Maramures Woman Museum, where you can learn about maramuresean traditions and way of live. According with the time we’ll go to explore a countryside area of old and isolated villages with low influence of modern times. Visit some local craftsmens as a traditional weaver, a wood carver, a water mill, traditional household, aso. Maramuresean dinner and accommodation in a local guesthouse from Botiza area.
Day 10. BOTIZA – RIMETEA
In the morning continue to explore Maramures visiting Barsana Monastery and also driving to an authentic countryside area with old villages and craftsmen. Visit an old worksop and a local household. Visit Budesti wooden church, built in 17th century (UNESCO). In the summer time we can visit a sheepyard and taste the local cheese.
Then we’ll depart from Maramures region back to Transylvania. In the afternoon we’ll stop in Rimetea village area, a great rural region located at the foot of the Apuseni Mountains. Overnight in a local guesthouse.
Day 11. RIMETEA – ALBA IULIA – HUNEDOARA - HATEG
We’ll continue to Alba Iulia, a city with long history dating since the ancient times. Visit the Orthodox Cathedral, Catholic Cathedral, the fortification system built in “Vauban” style.
In the afternoon we’ll visit the Hunyad Castle, built in 15th century is the biggest medieval castle from Hunedoara.
Overnight in Hateg, 3 stars guesthouse.
Day 12. HUNEDOARA – HATEG – BIGAR WATERFALL - ORSOVA
Today we’ll cross the Sothern Carpathians mountains toward Walachia – the sothern region of Romania. It is a veru scenic drive with many interesting spots to visit and opportunities for photo sessions. We will stop at Hateg to visit the Romanian bison (zimbru) reservation. You’ll like these gorgeous animals, almost extincted.
Next we’ll visit Bigar waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. At Eftimie Murgu we’ll have a walk to discover an unique system of very old watermills still working and used by the local people. End the day in Orsova, on the shore of Danube River. Overnight in a 3 stars pension overlooking the river.
Day 13 ORSOVA – TARGU JIU
In the morning we’ll join a boat ride on the river to see one of the most interesting parts of the Danube.
On the route towards Targu Jiu we’ll stop to see “God’s bridge” an unique natural bridge. Next we’ll visit Tismana Monastery (UNESCO) a special monastery buit at the foot of the mountains.
End the day in Targu Jiu, the place where we can see some of the works of the Romanian famous sculptor – Constantin Brancusi.

Day 14 TARGU JIU – BUCHAREST
In the morning we’ll drive up to Transalpina mountain road. The highest point is 2200 m altitude. For the rest of the day you can choose between: Hike in the area
End the day in the evening at Bucharest. Overnight at Rin Airport**** hotel, located in the airport area.
Day 15. BUCHAREST – departure
Transfer to the airport for your depature flight.
