We’ll pick-up you from your hotel in Brasov and we’ll go to Bran and visit the famous Bran Castle. Also called Dracula`s Castle, it is situated not far from Brasov (25 kilometres) at the entrance in the Bran - Rucar passage. The castle got its fame from Dracula`s legend written in 1897 by Bram Stoker and later on made into a film by Francis Ford Coppola.. The first documents about Bran Castle appeared in 1377. Along the history, the Castle had a strategic mission being the border between Transylvania and Wallachia. First it was under the rule of the King of Hungary Sigismund of Luxemburg, of the Romanian voivodes Mircea cel Batran and Vlad Tepes and later on it came under the jurisdiction of the City of Brasov. In the XX century the castle was donated to the royal family and became a royal residence.
Next we’ll visit the Rasnov fortress, built in 14th century, was a shelter for the inhabitants of Rasnov town. As such, it had at least 30 houses, a school, a chapel and other buildings more commonly associated with a village. The defensive system included nine towers, two bastions and a drawbridge.
The last visit will be at Prejmer fortified church (UNESCO). It is a unique sample of s religious and defensive building, having the role to protect the local villagers. These types of structures can be seen in Transylvania only. The oldest part of the church, built in a cross-shaped plan, was completed in 1225. The church was fortified adding a 40-feet high / 12-feet thick defending wall, which are surrounded by a, 18-feet deep / 25-feet wide, water ditch. Bastions, drawbridges and a secret, subterranean, passage are some of the features of Prejmer stronghold. The church's most-feared war device was the "death machine," made of several fire-weapons that could shoot simultaneously, causing the enemy significant losses. Historical records attest that in its 500 years of existence, the fortress was besieged 50 times, but it was captured only once.
